DeKalb County is grieving the tragic loss of Officer David Rose, who was killed in the line of duty on Friday, August 8, while responding to a call involving a reported gunman near Clifton Road and CDC Parkway.
Officer Rose, 33, joined the DeKalb County Police Academy in September 2024 and graduated from the police academy in March of this year. He was assigned to the North Central Precinct. He quickly earned the respect of his colleagues for his dedication, courage, and professionalism.
Before joining DeKalb County Police, Officer Rose proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps, including a deployment to Afghanistan. His life was defined by service -first to his country, and then to the people of DeKalb County.
Officer Rose leaves behind a wife, two young children, and a third child expected later this year, as well as his parents, siblings, extended family, and a department that considered him a brother.
DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson shared her condolences:
“This evening there’s a wife without a husband, three children-one unborn-without a father, and a mother and father as well as siblings who also share in this traumatic loss. My heart goes out to my DeKalb County family. Tonight, it is with profound sadness that I say to all frontline responders that we are here to support you. Let us join together to give the family of Officer Rose the support they need.”
As DeKalb County mourns, flags at County facilities will be lowered to half-staff in honor of Officer Rose’s service and sacrifice. Further details about memorial arrangements will be shared when available.
